ABOUT | Mia LeRoux
My dad and I have always been very close. Growing up, many of my favorite memories of our relationship always involved motorsport in one way or another. Whether it was watching him race his Porsche 911 C4S around Watkins Glenn with the Porsche Club of America, late-night Top Gear marathons, or staying up past my bedtime reading his Carroll Shelby biography with flashlight in hand, the motorsport bug bit me early on and I had never realized it.
Enjoying the steaming sonata of a well driven race had always just been a way of spending quality time with my dad. I never thought that motorsport could be even a possibility for a young girl like myself, that is until I saw Lella Lombardi's photo in a museum for the first time. I was amazed, I never even imagined of a girl racing a racecar, forget winning races.
It was not until then, that I had the epiphany that I could be a driver.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic my dad took me up to his home track Whiskey Hill Raceway, in Palmer, MA. There, he sat me down inside of his 1991 Spec Miata and taught me how to shift- a lesson later expanded on our 1974 BMW 2002.
After the first few lessons and several in car coaching sessions, my dad let me out on the track alone with a radio. I started off slow, slowly working up to more and more speed.
After attending 2 racing schools, 2 supervised races and 2 simulated races, with the New England Region, I earned my SCCA competition license shortly after my 16th birthday. I got my drivers license 4 months later.
With ambitions of moving up the ranks into a professional series, My family and I moved from our home that I was raised in in Rhode Island, to Florida. Now I am racing year round, going to University of Florida, driving weekly,
and chasing seconds towards my dream.
